Oakland Nature Preserve – If you love the great outdoors then this place is for you. It’s protected land with developed trails that are perfect for kids. Plenty of natural wildlife which contains a bridge wooden path out to Lake Apopka to enjoy the view and bird life. There is no fishing or diving off of this path as it is simply meant for you to enjoy the Florida outdoor wildlife.
West Orange Trail – Now if cycling or running is your thing, then this one is perfect and challenging for you. The West Orange Trail is a 22-mile long multi-use rail trail owned by Orange County Parks and Recreation in Orange County, Florida, in the United States. The paved trail passes through downtown Oakland, Winter Garden, and Apopka with most of its length built on old railroad alignments. It’s a pretty creative path with natural wooded areas. To the west of the West Orange Trail is the South Lake-Lake Minneola Scenic Trail in Lake County which was upgraded and connected to the trail in 2007. A cyclists dream with plenty of road without any worries of car traffic, safety is something that comes with this trail.
Lake Apopka - Lake Apopka is the fourth largest lake in the U.S. state of Florida. It touches several cities and towns and is great for boating, kayaking, fishing and to enjoy the peaceful tranquil lake winds. It is located 15 miles northwest of Orlando, mostly within the bounds of Orange County, although the western part is in Lake County. Fed by a natural spring, rainfall and stormwater runoff, water from Lake Apopka flows through the Apopka-Beauclair Canal and into Lakes Beauclair and Dora. From Lake Dora, water flows into Lake Eustis, then into Lake Griffin and then northward into the Ocklawaha River, which flows into the St. Johns River.
