What To Do in Winter Garden, FL

Winter Garden, a city just twenty minutes away from Orlando, Florida, is the cultural capital of the area. Thanks to its climate, it used to be a citrus town. Today, it is an attractive city with a rich history, lavish nature, and abundant outdoor family-friendly activities. Live music, fresh local produce, hiking, biking, and the picturesque Lake Apopka are just some of the things that welcome its visitors.

PLACES TO VISIT

Balmy temperatures of the region mean rich production of fruit and vegetables that make a magnificent colorful picture at the Winter Garden Farmer’s Market. However, the market is more than just fresh produce – it is a fair and festival venue and site for plenty of family-friendly activities. It is open every Saturday morning.

Plant Street Market is a stunning place where visitors can buy stylish and unconventional items. Homemade products like chocolates, baked goods, and health products are also available. By purchasing things at the market, visitors help the farmers and artists. 

Crooked Can Brewing Company offers much more than you could expect. It is not just a glass of cold local brew. On the contrary, it is a pleasant environment and tasty food that you can enjoy there.

Withers-Maguire House, a 120-year old house not far from Winter Garden is home to original furniture, art, and housewares. It is a great place to learn about local history. Visitors can visit it on Saturday and Sunday afternoon free of charge.

The historical depot with the Central Florida Railroad Museum is a significant place to learn about the railroad and history of transportation. In the Museum of Military History, visitors can learn about different war periods.

The famous Wheel At ICON Park Orlando built with advanced technology offers amazing views of the area. A variety of different activities like fairs and festivals invite visitors to spend a lot of time there.

The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, home to a huge number of plant and animal species, Gatorland with various animals and Magnolia Park in Apopka are appreciated by nature-lovers.

 

 

 

EVENTS

Mild temperatures enable outdoor activities all year round.  Every Friday evening visitors can listen to live music at the Plaza Concert in Centennial Plaza Gazebo.

Cruz-n-Car Show held in January, April, June, and September on Plant Street features about 275 different classic cars. The show is free and entertainment is provided. Visitors don’t only have to be spectators. They can showcase their own vehicle.

There are several annual parades in Winter Garden. In January it is Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in honor of the civil rights movement leader. Visitors can listen to speakers, and enjoy the entertainment. This family-friendly event is an excellent place to take kids to enjoy different activities designed just for them.

In July, visitors can take part in All American Kids Parade & Breakfast where visitors can enjoy breakfast and various activities.

Winter Garden Christmas Parade is held in December and ends with looking for Santa Claus.

Another one in December is Christmas Golf Cart Parade with golf carts traveling along the historic streets of Winter Garden.

Another kids’ event, held in  February, is Little Cupid’s Carnival for the youngest ones ages 3 to 5. They can do arts and crafts, face painting and take part in a plethora of fun games.

In April, kids ages 2 to 12 can join Winter Garden Lions Club Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Lake Apopka.

July the fourth’s Party in the Park invites visitors to bring a chair or a blanket and to watch one of the best fireworks around. There is plenty of entertainment, food, and numerous activities for children and adults alike.

Annual Spring Fever in the Garden is Winter Garden’s highlight that takes place in April. The flower, plant and garden festival with live entertainment and food is a great place to buy flowers or plants from the huge variety on display. It is a family-friendly event with environmental activities that are both fun and educational.

More events overflow December, like Annual Light Up Winter Garden. It is a street lighting ceremony followed by live entertainment, shopping, food vendors and kids’ activities.

Holiday music treats, and high spirits are Winter Garden’s Annual Santa Run’s trademark while Santa and his sleigh go through Winter Garden neighborhoods.

Oakland Heritage Festival in October celebrates the Lake Apopka basin's natural and cultural history. As usual, this festival promises good entertainment, good food, and family-friendly activities.
